Version 1.1



Welcome to my very first Tales of the Elm Asset pack update! V 1.1

 

OH MY GOODNESS WE DID IT! WELCOME Elmies to V1.1!!!!  

Rather than creating a bunch of new pixel art I thought I should really be selective about what I create in order to polish up this asset pack as much as possible!  

UPDATES:  

  • New basic animated character sprite
  • New house sprite
  • New basic chest
  • New tiles
  • Grass colour evenly distributed across tile types and shading added. (thanks to dustdfg for some advice on grass colour/shading )
  • Tiles made compatible with Game Maker auto tile system. Wew!
  • Water/cliff tiles updated
  • Shadow tile added 

Creating this asset pack is so difficult but I’m constantly learning something new which is exciting. I hope when I am feeling confident enough, I will be able to participate in Game Jams too! ^^ I want to share everything with you guys and get to know this wonderful community in as many ways possible. I am looking into more ways to do this in future~  

What I wish for so badly someday is to call myself a “game dev”. Hehe~  I hope to add updates every 2 weeks. I am so passionate about this project and making pixels.

Shade of trees looks unrealistic. The bush (is it a bush or small tree?) don't have shadow that looks strange when trees have shadow. As well as bushes don't have shadow, house and stumps also don't have them...

P.S Cool! Cool house! I think you have a "knack" for it! ;)

Thank you! Your comment is very accurate. I made just a simple shadow square and it adds something but it's not enough or very accurate. I will be reworking the shade soon-hopefully releasing v1.2 in 2 weeks time and I plan to add an attacking animation, better shadows, basic monster-possibly a waterfall or water animations. I am trying to work out lighting and reflections before I make more water tiles- It's a bit tricky so I'm getting some help. Hopefully then I will have enough sprites to release a basic free version too.
